Easily overlooked, but did you know that you have to obtain a VE103 form when travelling abroad if you have a leased or rented vehicle?
What is a VE103?
A VE103 is a certificate giving permission to travel abroad. This documentation is required when any rental or leased vehicle is taken out of the country. VE103 certificates are provided to GECFFS by the British Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association (BVRLA). GE Commercial Finance Fleet Services then issue these certificates to drivers on a request basis.
VE103 certificates are valid for a full year and cost around £7.50 plus VAT
If a new VE103 is issued against a vehicle, any previously issued certificates become invalid.
Whilst abroad the VE103, insurance certificate, driving licence and passport should be kept with the driver of the vehicle at all time.
If there will be more than one person driving the vehicle whilst abroad the secondary drivers should be named on the VE103 certificate.
Certain customers also have other specific documentation that drivers should be issued with, before embarking upon a journey abroad (e.g. accident statement, replacement tyre & glass information).
To obtain your VE103 form simply call 0870 444 1000, available 7 days a week 24 hours a day. All you need to do is to quote your customer number which is found on your driver helpline card and the form will be completed over the phone. You will be asked to provide the following information:-
Exact dates the car will be out of the country
Countries to be visited
Any additional drivers
Upon completion, we will send you the relevant documentation in the post. To make sure you receive this in time for your trip, please allow two weeks notice.
You can also request your VE103 online via iDrive
Do not forget when travelling overseas that you should take a touring kit of spare parts, a warning triangle and first aid kit. In many countries these items are mandatory
